Eight Parks Dept. Electric Vehicles Catch Fire In Orchard Beach

Updated, 11:48 a.m. | Eight electric minicars used by Parks Department workers caught fire while they were being charged at a maintenance yard in Orchard Beach in Pelham Bay Park in the Bronx on Thursday morning. It took 60 firefighters about half an hour to extinguish the carts, which were reported burning just after 9 a.m. While fire marshals are investigating, the blaze “doesn’t appear to be suspicious,” a fire official said. Six of the carts were totaled.
