Police released surveillance video of a "person of interest," in the case. The video shows a male black running eastbound on East 213th Street from the vicinity of the park, carrying a backpack.

Police arrested a 27-year-old Bronx parolee wanted in Monday’s savage attack of a 15-year-old in a Bronx park.
Shaun Lewis was working at his truck unloading job in Garden City Long Island last night around 8:00pm when he was picked up by police.
Lewis was arrested for Assault, Attempted Rape, Strangulation, Endangering the Welfare of a Child and Forcible Touching according to officials.
He has been arrested at least two times for robbery and was on parole until 2018.
Lewis lives less than a mile away from the park on Lurting Avenue.
The suspect was arrested in connection to the vicious beating and sexual assault of a fifteen-year-old high school student who had recently run away.
She was returning home early Monday morning from a friend's house in Staten Island when police believe she met the suspect on the subway. They got off at Gun Hill Road and White Plains Road two stops away from her house.
They walked together to the corner of Bronx Boulevard and East 213 Street, outside Shoelace Park, a part of Bronx Park. Once there he punched her in the face and punched her in the groin area and dragged her into the park.
The victim sustained severe facial and head injuries including a fractured jaw, missing teeth, bruising near her eyes and scratches on her thigh. During the assault, the attacker choked her causing her to loose consciousness at least three times.

The victim told police she was sexually assaulted.
After the assault, the victim forced her into the Bronx River. She woke up wet and with no pants. She emerged on the other side of the park and staggered along the Bronx River Parkway to Gun Hill Road where a good Samaritan helped her.
This arrow section of Bronx Park runs from 211th Street to 231st Street along the Bronx River.
Violent crime in parks continuous to soar rising twenty-five percent over the last year.
